I love recipes that come from my family. Many years ago my great grandmother compiled a book of recipes from all the ladies in our extended family. Some are a bit harder to follow than others. Our grandmothers just knew what to do, when to put it in, and didn’t write it down!! I have really enjoyed trying a number of the recipes and sharing my favorites with you!
Sweet & Sour Skillet Chicken
1 large onion, sliced
1 fryer chicken, cut into serving pieces
2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/2 c. marinara sauce
2 Tbl. mustard
1/4 c. vinegar
1/2 c. maple syrup
Slice onion and place in the bottom of a large skillet. Arrange chicken, skin side up, on top of onions. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Combine remaining ingredients and 1/2 cup water and pour over chicken in skillet. Cook on medium heat, covered, for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to low and simmer, covered for 1 hour. Basting occasionally. Cook until chicken is tender.

- Place the chicken skillet under a broiler for 5-10 minutes to crisp up the skin and make a beautiful golden brown before serving
